Conference “Should justice be subject to payment? Comparative perspectives from France, the United States, and the United Kingdom” – May 21, 2026

The French-American Bar Association is organizing a conference, followed by a cocktail reception, on May 21, 2026 at 6 p.m. on the theme:

“Should justice be subject to payment? Comparative perspectives from France, the United States and the United Kingdom.”

This event will take place at the premises of Cabinet Lérins, 75 avenue des Champs-Elysées, 75008 Paris.

The registration fee is 15 euros for FABA Members and 20 euros for non-Members.

Speakers :

Nicolas Michon, judge (“Magistrat”) at the French “Cour de cassation”

Mr. Michon is currently a reporting judge at the Cour de Cassation, Criminal Chamber, 4th Chamber (economic and financial crime).

A graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) in 1998, he completed the joint Cornell/Paris I program. After serving as a clerk to Judge Reginald C. Lindsay in the Massachusetts Federal District Court, he joined the litigation department of the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. He then joined Accenture’s in-house litigation department before briefly serving as a Cornell clerk at the French Council of State and being admitted to the National School for the Judiciary (École nationale de la magistrature) in 2011.

After an initial posting as a judge in Dieppe, he worked in the documentation department of the Cour de Cassation, then in the civil chamber for tax and banking law and in the financial crime chambers of the Paris Judicial Court. He joined the Cour de Cassation as a reporting judge in 2021 and was initially assigned to the 1st chamber of the criminal section, which deals primarily with criminal procedure.

Duncan Fairgrieve, Attorney at the Paris Bar and Barrister

Professor Duncan Fairgrieve KC is a professor of comparative law at the University of Paris-Dauphine PSL and a Senior Fellow in Comparative Law at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, London.

He is an internationally renowned comparative lawyer, specializing in comparative contract law, comparative public law, and comparative law methodology. He has published over 20 books on various topics in comparative law and numerous articles in French, English, and American legal journals on these subjects. He is a member of the Paris Bar and a Barrister in England and Wales.

Alexander Blumrosen, Attorney admitted to the Paris and New York Bars

Alexander Blumrosen is the founder of Polaris Law in Paris. Admitted to the New York and Paris bars, he specializes in international arbitration and matters of obtaining evidence in France under the French Blocking Statute. A recognized expert in data protection, he has been selected as an arbitrator under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and regularly acts as a Privacy Monitor in cross-border disputes. A former president of the International Technology Law Association, he is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a Knight of the Legion of Honor.

A cocktail reception will follow the conference.
